How can I read music, to play guitar songs?

How can I read guitar music, or tabulatures, or notes, or whatever they are called. I know the numbers represents the frets and the lines the strings, but there is something more. For example, when I launch Guitar Pro, above this are the notes, you know what I mean, black points. Some of them are longer, some of them are thin, how can I read them?

how are you suppose to play a chord when reading guitar music?

As I look at the sheet music for a guitar part, i notice the notes on the staff and then I notice that there are the names of chords above the staff. How do i play those. I know i have to play the chord, but do i keep playing the chord on the beat of the music? Or do i only play it when the name of the chord shows up? I guess i am saying what rhythm do i play the chords with?

I’m really looking for some nice acoustic guitar music to use to just mellow out. I already have some good songs and know of a bunch of bands/singers that do great acoustic work, but now I’m really looking for just plain acoustic guitar with no lyrics.

Best place to find acoustic guitar music?

I took an intro guitar class last semester in college and continue to play by myself. I can read music and know all the basic notes and chords for the guitar. Does anyone have suggestions of where I can find good sheet music for acoustic? I want to learn how to play some good songs that I know to make it enjoyable for myself. Thanks.
